Lawyer roster
Lawyers are professionals who are experts about the law. They can advise you about how the law and the legal system affect your problem, offer solutions, and help you determine what is best for you and/or your family. Only a lawyer is trained and licensed to serve your legal needs. This roster provides a list of lawyers who are willing to help people who represent themselves by providing limited service for a fee. This is different from full representation where the lawyer handles everything about the case from beginning to end. Here, the person with the legal issue represents themselves, but gets some service(s) from a lawyer.
Lawyers on this roster must be an active member in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona, AND be willing to assist litigants who are representing themselves in court by offering legal advice and/or limited service as appropriate. This is not representation. Potential services available through these lawyers may be advice and counsel, document preparation and/or review, coaching, and other services deemed appropriate by the lawyer, and agreed to by the client.
Mediator roster
Mediation is a process where two or more people who are having a problem sit down with a mediator (an expert on problem-solving) to consider possible solutions. The mediator does NOT tell people what to do or give legal advice! The mediator helps them look at all the solutions that might work to respond to the problem and the consequences related to making a particular decision. The mediator knows how people can make the best decisions for their particular situation.
Mediators on this roster must do the following things before they can be listed on the roster: (1)Attended at a minimum a comprehensive 40-hour course in family mediation OR 40-hours of mediation training plus a comprehensive 20-hour course in family mediation (if listed as a family mediator), OR 40-hours of general mediation training, and submit acceptable third party verification of attendance at that course; and, (2) be willing to conduct pre-mediation screening as to the appropriateness of mediation services for the case, including screening for domestic violence in family mediation cases. -
