The Judicial Branch of Arizona, Maricopa County
Additional Information About Filing Papers
- There is usually a fee to file papers with the court, but it can be deferred or waived if you qualify. If you
are filing for a deferral or waiver of court fees, allow at least a couple of hours at court for the paperwork
to be prepared and authorized. For further information on deferrals and waivers click here.
- When you file a new court case, the Clerk of the Court will assign and stamp a new case number on the document
you are filing as well as on any copies to be returned to you. The case number will have 2 letters, such as "FC"
or "FN" for Family Court or "PB" for Probate or "CV" for Civil, etc., and then a series of numbers that starts
with the year of the filing. (Example = FC2005-001234).
- If you are filing a new request in an existing Maricopa County Superior Court case, use the original case
number. If you were "Petitioner" or "Plaintiff" in the original case, you remain "Petitioner" or "Plaintiff" in
all matters that follow under that case number. Likewise, if you were "Respondent" or "Defendant" in the original
case, you remain "Respondent" or "Defendant" in all matters that follow.
