Juvenile Probation

Limited Jurisdiction Courts Many juveniles who are eligible for diversion are sent to a limited jurisdiction court (LJC). These are city courts and justice of the peace courts. If a juvenile is referred for truancy, possession of alcohol, or a traffic offense she MAY be referred to a LJC depending on where she lives and which police department made the referral.

The juvenile will appear before a city court judge or a justice of the peace who will explain to the juvenile her legal rights, and give her a consequence such as community service or participation in a program sponsored by that court. If the juvenile completes the consequence, the case is closed.
