Juvenile Probation Department Welcome
Welcome to the Maricopa County Juvenile Probation Department's, (MCJPD) website. The MCJPD is a restorative
justice agency where enhancing public safety through evidence-based practices is a goal for every employee.
Staff members embrace the values of Character Counts!©, (responsibility, fairness, respect, caring,
trustworthiness, and citizenship) for use within youth programs, as well as staff interactions. As an integral
part of the Judicial Branch, MCJPD collaborates with many state, county and local government agencies,
community based and non-profit organizations, schools, and other leaders in the community to improve outcomes
for youth residing in Maricopa County.
MCJPD has approximately 850 staff members who are responsible for programs that provide community supervision
for approximately 4,500 youth on probation. In addition to community supervision, department staff also
provide early intervention and juvenile crime prevention programs that include legal education classes,
school safety programs, Teen Court and more. MCJPD also provides secure care detention for youth at detention
facilities located in Phoenix (Durango facility) and Mesa (South East facility). Together, these detention
facilities have a combined functional capacity to provide secure care for 336 youth.
