Juvenile Probation

City Diversion Several cities operate or fund programs that meet the requirements of state law for a community-based alternative program of diversion.

Some juveniles who are accused of minor offenses (such as shoplifting, curfew, or possession of alcohol) and who live in an area where a diversion program is available, may be referred to a city diversion program. If they complete the program's requirements, the offense will be closed and no further legal action taken.

Generally these programs require the juvenile to attend one or more classes that help them develop decision-making skills so they will not break the law again.

Cities that operate or fund diversion programs are: Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Mesa, Peoria, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tolleson, and Tempe.
