The Judicial Branch of Arizona, Maricopa County
Weapons and Prohibited Items
Potential Weapons
The goal of the Court Security Department is
to make the Superior Court facilities a safer and more secure environment for all.
Any person entering a Superior Court,
Justice Court or Municipal Court facility may be subject to search. Handheld possessions including purses, cell
phones, pagers, briefcases and packages are subject to search and inspection. Weapons of any kind
are strictly prohibited and may be confiscated. Among items prohibited from court facilities are
guns, knives, ammunition, pepper spray, mace, razor blades, illegal drugs and any other type of
dangerous or hazardous material or property.
A variety of items may be prohibited because
they are hazardous or could be used as potential weapons. These items include any object that is
sharp, pointed or with a cutting blade regardless of length. Among the items that are potential
weapons are knives, scissors, screwdrivers, large metal nail files and tools not in a tool kit and
not used for repair and maintenance.
List of Prohibited Items
Officers are expected
to exercise sound discretion and will be held accountable for their discretion.
Consistent with this management philosophy, the following list is intended
as a guideline. If questions, concerns, or complaints are raised, immediately
